S jo was born out of a RCA design PhD project looking to evolve power & privilege specifically within the act of craft practice between traditional women’s craft communities and NGOs/designers in development. It consistently searches for new vocabulary & syntax for traditional craft skills and makers. Our signature jewellery, conceptualised in 2011, values each craftwoman’s creativity. The magic of our pieces comes from the symphony of working together as different craftswomen, in a nurturing and mutual learning space.

S jo Style: Tonal and Colour blocked outfits

Bold colour outfits, whether monochromatic, tonal or contrasting, can make your day a little brighter. When colours are paired right they feel more special than black or white and exude confidence. Pairing the right accessories in particular jewellery can make the look more considered and unique to your own style.

Tonal outfits use tones from the same colour such as red and pink. While colour blocking can be with any two or more colours or with complimentary colours that are exactly opposite to each other on the Colour Wheel, such as blue and orange. Complimentary colours look more intense when put next to each other.

S jo is vibrant and colourful but that doesn’t mean it has to be worn over black and white only. In this style blog I have paired S jo pieces with tonal and colour blocked outfits which can polish and bring the look together and make it unique to you. These style tips will help you get more wear out of your pieces.

I like to mix textures when going for bold colour looks to add interest (no getting away from my textiles background!).

One of my favourite tonal combinations is wearing red with light pink or peach or coral. Above is a warm red and peach pink worn with Tonal Red Tassel necklace and below a cool red and pink with Blush Maroon Ombre necklace.

For colour blocking turquoise and orange is one of our favourite combinations and the AGJ women often use this pairing in their work. The necklace styles pick up the turquoise of the pleated top and the orange of the cropped trousers blending the look seamlessly while not being too ‘matchy’.

Accessories or jewellery can also be used to create the colour blocking effect and add interest to tonal or monochrome looks.

I hope you enjoyed this S jo style blog. Do share your own style photos and tips via email, instagram and facebook!
